It’s been a busy coupla weeks and I’ve been having too much fun to post. The weekend before last Mark, Uther and I went to visit Peter, Maryellen and Wavy at their farm in Vermont. We had a great time. Bee working, swimming, walking, napping, play napping, veggie eating, touring the Dog chapel, playing with blocks, salsa making, tractor driving, and magazine reading were just a few of the activities we participated in. The Griffins are very busy running their organic vegetable farm this time of year, and I’m sure we kept them from their work a bit.

Maryellen and I worked her bees some. We took a beekeeping class together a couple of years ago, and she started her hive soon after we finished, and I had some hopes of starting one here in Brooklyn. (One of the beekeepers in our class has several hives in Manhatten. They are on the top of buildings near central park. I don’t think he’d had any trouble but he said that there were heavy fines if you were caught. If I remember correctly the fine is for harbouring a wild animal or something like that.) Anyway, Maryellen’s bees are thriving! We replaced a frame that was rotten and harvested a bunch of honey and wax (just from the bad frame).
You can go to Peter and Maryellen’s site and see more bee photos and also see what they are growing at Old Shaw Farm
